Join us for a screening of the beloved 1994 sleeper hit, The Shawshank Redemption! Written and directed by Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Walking Dead), and based on the 1982 Stephen King novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”, the film tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the following two decades, he befriends a fellow prisoner, contraband smuggler Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), and becomes instrumental in a scheme led by the prison warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton). William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Gil Bellows, and James Whitmore appear in supporting roles.
Sponsored in part through the Sturgis Area Community Foundation - Flora Beck Performing Arts Endowment Fund.
The Sturgis Cinema Circle seeks to engage audiences with the experience of seeing classic films on the big screen while enjoying an expanded understanding of the film's cultural and historical significance through a featured post-show conversation hosted by the director of the Sturges-Young. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students, seniors and military, which are available by phone at (269) 651-8541 or walk-up sales prior to show date and at the door. Concessions available.
